While our industry sector continues to navigate through a challenging macroeconomic environment, we are seeing improvement across all geographies. After having fully integrated and realized the cost synergies from last year's NextPoint acquisition, we experienced growth from both our SBC and S9 Security Gateway platforms during the 3rd quarter. Our flagship G9 Converged Media Gateway continues to gain global momentum, supporting a wide variety of fixed and mobile applications including emerging solutions such as femtocells and transcoding.
A femtocell is a small cellular base station, designed for use in a home or small business, which is connected to a service providers' network via a broadband connection (DSL, Cable, PON). Femtocells allow service providers to extend service coverage indoors, especially where access would otherwise be limited or unavailable. Our G9 Converged Media Gateway and S2 Security Gateway have been deployed in nearly a dozen femtocell trials, with First Office Applications (FOA) underway with two European service providers.
Carrier consolidation, the convergence of fixed and mobile networks, and the prevalence of all-IP network architectures are all driving a growing need for transcoding in today's communications networks. We offer a unique solution, already adopted by several leading service providers, that avoids these issues by enabling direct IP-IP transcoding with support for fixed, mobile, and satellite codecs.
Despite the challenging economic climate, we expect sequential growth in the fourth quarter, with North America delivering above-seasonal trends and EMEA, CALA and APAC remaining balanced. For the third consecutive year, we were named to the Inc. 500 list of fastest growing privately held companies in the nation, and just last week Deloitte again recognized GENBAND as the 63rd fastest growing technology company, public or private, in North America. With a keen focus on innovation and performance, we remain optimistic and excited about our near term prospects and appreciate your continued business.

The SR3 Route Proxy, GENBAND's newest product, seamlessly integrates with GENBAND's portfolio of Session Border Controllers (SBCs) and the C3 Signaling Controller for high-volume routing logic, to increase call profitability and provide superior management control. The GENBAND SR3 solution offers virtually unlimited scale and superior performance with an N 1 cluster architecture that handles 250 calls per second on each server, 10 million routes and 100 million rates.
|
 |
Moreover, its API allows the SR3 to work with any existing billing and operational support systems, VoIP network gear (including non-GENBAND equipment), and internal departments. The breadth and depth of the route choices emphasizes the SR3's ability to emulate TDM routing within an IP network. Also the SR3 facilitates trunk group routing which is a unique feature that allows a carrier to more easily migrate from TDM to VoIP. The SR3 enforces profitability by centralizing business rules and enforcing profitability as it increases margin on existing traffic in the network. Post launch assessments show major operators pickup 10-12% of margin dollars on existing traffic, decrease port utilization by 50-66%, and reduce manpower as the SR3 makes it easier to manage the business.

GENBAND has made valuable updates to the S330 SBC/GenView RSM Fundamentals and the S340 Operations & Maintenance courses.
The S330 class focuses on provisioning the S3 through CLI commands, and using the RSM Console. Students learn how to configure the SBC by building media and signaling VNETs (Virtual Networks), realms and end points. They also learn how to create calling plans, set priority routing, create trunk groups and administer alarms and events within the RSM. |
 |
The S340 class focuses on the hardware and architecture used with the SBC and the GenView RSM. Students will also learn how to cable the system, perform basic troubleshooting, perform backups of the databases, enable SNMP, and understand how to monitor the high availability configuration. The students will also be trained how to monitor and adjust the SBC's performance as well as how to read Call Detail Records (CDR) for troubleshooting.

SUPERCOMM 2009, the biggest fixed-line show in North America, has come and gone. Thousands of leaders in broadband equipment, converged networks, and digital content attended SUPERCOMM 2009 in Chicago last week. GENBAND addressed the voice over LTE in an ATIS Technology Conference Panel and participated in a panel on transcoding with Verizon and Nokia Siemens Networks. GENBAND also made some news: |

As Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) opens the door to a wealth of new opportunities for service providers and their customers, it also ushers in a number of potential security flaws that can be exploited. These security concerns are compounded by the fact that IP and open source technologies are breaking down walls within and among wireless and wireline networks, and between carriers, content owners and creators. This Webinar recording examines the state of security for these IP networks, examining some of the common issues that network operators have encountered and how they have successfully resolved them.
