These exponential increases in computing, place a demand on service provider networks that must be matched by continual innovation in the underlying network architecture.
The smart business case to meet these needs requires being able to use commercially available, off-the-shelf components — as long as those components can be guaranteed suitable for service provider networks, and a new product platform from GENBAND, ingeniously makes this practical approach a reality.
GENBAND delivers an all-IP ATCA platform “the GENBAND GENiUS” that will encompass GENBAND’s application, call control, session border and security product lines. The GENBAND GENiUS platform incorporates high-performance, high-density computing hardware and sophisticated SAF-compliant middleware, delivering the highest functionality, availability and robustness in the market. It uses standards based hardware, a hardened Linux operating system with telecom-specific extensions, and modular, fault tolerant middleware.
GENBAND GENiUS is being deployed as the common platform for many GENBAND products within the A-series (A2, A6), the C-series (C3, C20) and the S-series (S3/S9 SBC, S2 SeG, SR3).
Having the ability to share in the common GENBAND GENiUS platform using only a few types of multi-purpose blades —programmable by software — in various combinations enables streamlined architecture and reduces acquisition, inventory and maintenance costs for service providers.
By utilizing open standards-based components in the common ATCA based GENBAND GENiUS platform, GENBAND is simplifying the network for service providers, partners and suppliers, and laying the foundation to deliver future applications.

- Carrier-grade robustness. Both the ATCA specification and GENBAND commitment require that products deliver premium uptime and stable quality of service under a broad range of operating conditions.

- Flexible access with tight security. Users can access their multimedia services from a variety of points — desktop IP phones, PCs and laptops equipped to perform as IP phones, and handheld devices. Their communications are protected by multiple authentication and security measures, all managed in one central location and shared across services for a uniform user experience.
- Simple provisioning. There is common operations, administration and maintenance (OAM) across all elements that use GENiUS. Subscriber data is maintained on a single data server. That means you have one point of provisioning— one set of subscriber data shared across multiple service and access domains — which greatly simplifies customer care while improving service integration and the end-user experience.
